Con il cambio di casa discografica (inclusa la rottura con Califano) ed un nuovo look , la ora biondissima Jo pubblica "Ma io mollo e vado al mare" , il nuovo singolo del 1985 , che richiama nuovamente l'attenzione di pubblico e critica , dopo due anni invece , nel 1987 porta alle stampe "Ma che bella storia d'amore" , un bel singolo che ottiene anche un discreto riscontro di popolarità e vendite oltralpe , in Francia .
Il brano in inglese "Over me" del 1986 , tenta la carta del mercato estero , ma sebbene sia valido non 'sfonda' .
Nel 1988 partecipa ad 'Un Disco per l'Estate' con il brano "Come nasce un nuovo amore" che ottiene , contro ogni pronostico della vigilia , la prima posizione nella sezione 'Giovani' .
L'anno seguente , Jo Chiarello torna ancora una volta al Festival di Sanremo , presentandosi 'clandestina' tra le 'Nuove proposte' , riesce così nel classificarsi seconda con la ballata "Io e il cielo" , alle spalle della 'vera' esordiente Mietta .

Con una carriera esigua di produzioni e direi quasi del tutto priva di successi e gratificazioni musicali , JO CHIARELLO rappresenta ad ogni modo un esempio di 'Italianità' nel senso affettivo e buono del termine , giovane divertente e sfrontata all'inizio , più intima e ragionevole nel corso degli anni successivi .
