OLIVER ONIONS - 'Columns' Scores
The first post of 2011.
light-heartedness and fun, a 'legendary' duo that has raged with their own soundtracks and television themes, the Italian music in the '70s and '80s.
From Lazio, more precisely from Rocca di Papa, in the mountain community of the Castelli Romani and Prenestini, the Oliver Onions (brothers Guido and Maurizio De Angelis), are perhaps even today among the least celebrated authors of soundtracks for films and television series, 'signing' other works also as Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, M & G Orchestra and other names (Oliver Onions was the name of an English novelist, Sir George Oliver Onions, was chosen only because it seems the two words are pronounced as they write, the pen drives that characterized themselves most successful).
The two brothers began their career as a guitarist, after Maurice graduated in composition and harmony, while in-depth guide to study the flute.
Firmly convinced to proceed with the profession of musicians, founded the first Black Stones, then changing Guido and Maurizio.
The beginning of their musical career dates back to 1963, when they can release their first 45 laps la CBS , "Un vecchio macinino" , singolo pubblicato appunto come Guido e Maurizio , entrando in seguito alla RCA , dove iniziano l'attività di arrangiatori , in coppia ma anche singolarmente , ma continuando comunque ad incidere .
Nel 1970 , grazie alle celebri acquaintances had, came into contact with the great and now late Nino Manfredi, arranging the famous "Just pe 'singing'" and composing their first soundtrack, "By the grace received", starring his beautiful Manfredi, getting a deserved success .
Among the many scores that have taken care of, those of the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, as "They Call Me Trinity" and "Martial Law", "We're Mad" (the 45 taken from the soundtrack, "Dune Buggy, one of their biggest hits), "Even angels eat beans," the series of films of Bud Spencer only ("Big Foot the cop," "Big Foot Africa", etc ...) and many other.
their work are also the soundtracks of several popular television series and cartoons, transmitted by RAI since the mid-'70s until the late '80 's, many hit singles as "Sandokan" (1976), "Zorro" (' 75), "Orzowei" (1977), "SOS Space 1999" (1979) and others.
Their song "Santamaria" had some success, especially in Germany in 1980.
The entry of two brothers in the world of cartoons, has produced many acronyms such as "Galaxy Express 999", "The cat Doraemon," "Rocky Joe" in 1982, which was followed by "D'Artacan" in 1983 and "The Small World with Willy Fog" in 1984.
A career and a discography rather complicated for these fine composers, despite never having written 'masterpieces', the music of Oliver Onions have surely accompanied the days of many children and adolescents at the time, was impressed by memories seemingly simple tunes, worthy of a just appreciation today.
remembrance.
