Premessa : l'Orgoglio Celtico in questione , senza voler offendere nessuno , non ha niente a che vedere con padania , camicie verdi , battesimo del Po e personaggi politicamente 'bizzarri' (Personal opinion), quite in vogue today (...).
This post is dedicated to a beautiful, historic Italian group, unfairly et remembered very little mentioned by the press of the Bel Paese, enhanced by the music industry at all national ( nothing major ever seems to have interested in them), radios (I am referring to those 'alternative' and / or 'free' if you prefer) and largely ignored biased (too 'archaic' and too little respect for commercial all'inflazionata Enya and the bagpipes 'dance' and collector Hevia) from the public audiophile more 'agnostic' and young.
From Florence, in business since the mid-'70s, the Whisky Trail is a glorious creation of Folk Music (with capital F) Celtic-inspired and traditional Irish, behind a rich discography and an impressive work on stage that continues to this day, without missing a beat, after all these years.
Whisky Trail The project has covered more than thirty years of his career with the same consistency and perseverance, always with the same energy and with the declared love for the culture and tradition of Ireland, never simply reproducing existing songs, but experimenting with new songs and new arrangements.
In the early 70's, an idea by Antonio Breschi, Fiorentino pianist, influenced by Jazz and Blues, the Folk Group International is formed.
The Group is made up of musicians from various musical backgrounds, including Breschi's wife, Rebecca Miller, U.S. Southern U.S. (whose beautiful voice seems to be well prepared for Elizabethan Madrigals, Gospel and Spiritual ), Peter Crivelli (Blues singer, guitarist and bass player), Stefano Hollesch (painter and musician who plays various instruments), Gilberto Kondo (African percussion) and finally Bubbico Piero (then a young man of promise 'Jazz Fiorentino environment).
As Folk Group International, the group performed in various musical events, with some success, playing various genres and styles, given the many varieties of 'musical experiences of its members.
is then decided the name change (probably because of a group of the same name then this, 'committed and militant', composed of various musicians and instrumentalists , tra cui Moni Ovadia) , con l'abbandono di un paio di componenti e l'inserimento di nuovi musicisti , nasce così Whisky Trail .
La prima formazione del gruppo comprendeva Antonio Breschi (dulcimer , piano e voce) , Stefano Corsi (arpa celtica e bardica , armonica , chitarra a dodici corde) , Rebecca Miller (alla voce) , Giulia Daneo Lorimer (violino e voce) , Daniel Craighead (tin whistle, accordion and vocals), Peter Crivelli (guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica) and Piero Bubbico (percussion).
It was with this first training that the group recorded its first album in 1975 for ' Editoriale Sciascia, the explicit title "Irish songs", followed by the next "Irish Songs & Dances" in 1977 (with Rebecca Miller and Peter Crivelli leaving the group to which instead were joined by Peter Sabatini, for electric and acoustic guitar, bouzouki, harmonium, small percussion and vocals).
In 1979 the group also joins Velemir Dugina and some concerts Chris Hamblin , and it is with this new line-up which is recorded their third album "Miriam" for the label Cardinal Records .

A constant throughout their recording career, has always been the change of formation.
In the years following the founder Antonio Breschi, Piero Bubbico Velemir Dugina and decides to quit the group and will join the project Lorenzo Greppi (highland bagpipe, dulcimer, harmonium , Dulcimer, bodhran, tin and low whistles, keyboards, harp and vocals).
Over 80s will be published two albums (the beautiful "Dies Irae" in 1982 and "Pooka" of '86), two other productions instead follow in the '90s ("The Frenzy of Suibhne "in 1992 and" White Goddess ", five years later in 1997).
the wonderful anthology published in 2002, the double CD "The Great Raid," which the group arrives at the new millennium Whisky Trail, which stands out even in the presence of Vieri Bugli the viola and fiddle.
Guests to the inevitable 'Irlanda in Festa', joyous and beautiful event that much soul Florence during the month of March, to celebrate Saint Patrick in fact, in 2005 released the CD "Irish Party" in honor of ten years of the event, with more than 150,000 admissions in 10 editions, an event still present in the Tuscan capital between 17 and 18 March, truly missed, with the past presence of Irish guests 'deluxe', as Donovan and the Chieftains.
Throughout their career, the group has performed hundreds of concerts in Italy and abroad, among them Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Portugal, taking part inoltre a spettacoli televisivi in RAI e Tmc fra i quali 'Concerto per l'Europa' con Stephane Grappelli , Roberto Murolo , Severino Gazzelloni nel 1980 , 'Pickwick' condotto da Alessandro Baricco nel 1996 ed 'Help' di Red Ronnie nel 1997 .
Nel 2007 è uscito il cd "Chaosmos" , edito da Amiata records , con riferimento alla poetica di Joyce , otto minisinfonie quasi sempre a due voci , in parte con due melodie intrecciate , con cambi ritmici e armonici in ogni brano , con parti lente e veloci ; è del 2008 l'ultima opera , il bellissimo cd dal titolo "San Frediano , an irishman in Florence" , ancora edito da Amiata Records , nel quale si rinnova l'antica sintonia between Florence and Ireland (San Frediano is a beautiful and historic district of Florence, but few citizens 'Giglio' know the origin of the Irish saint), a record that sees the 'coming back' of musicians, including Piero Bubbico on percussion.
the last manifestation of 'party in Ireland', in March of this year, the group celebrated St. Patrick's Day, with the 'reunion' of Antonio Breschi, Daniel Craighead, violinist Chris Hamblin Bubbico Piero and the rest of the training, ie Giulia Lorimer, Vieri Bugli, Stefano Corsi, Massimo Giuntini and Peter Sabatini.
On the occasion of 35th anniversary of the Whisky Trail, Saschall published anthology called "Beginnings", a collection of excerpts from the first three albums, and re-presented in original version with additional contributions from Vieri Bugli the violin and to Massimo Giuntini Irish bagpipes.
Passing casually and without much difficulty the years of 'technology at all costs', computers and samples, our WHISKY TRAIL continue undeterred in their play Celtic harp, bagpipes, bouzouki , violin and harmonium, the mortars and flutes, while maintaining that sound magical 'spell' obtained from the 'mystical' voice of Julia Lorimer and mastery of Stefano Corsi, Pietro Sabatini, Vieri Bugli and Massimo Giuntini, indomitable minstrels of the new century, completing this great and historic 'potion' music.
'Diggiamolo': The best group of 'Irish Music' is Italian!
then I invite you to listen to (some people will surely be the first time, I'm sure), we suggest a glass of Bushmills Malt to enter more in the 'climate' right ... .
whiskey, soda and Irish Folk.
